It’s that time of year again: Boekenfestijn was in town and this time I went a bit wilder than in previous years.
Yes, what you see there are 21 of the 34 books (so far) of the Morland Dynasty series by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. What makes it even worse is that the first one has been on the TBR for years now… (*blush*). They were so cheap! And they do look like the sort of books I’d love!
The others in the loot:
- The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell – I’ve heard great things about it;
- The Olive Tree: A Personal Journey Through Mediterranean Olive Groves by Carol Drinkwater – because I’ve always been fascinated by olives, olive oil and olive trees;
- The Distance Between Us by Maggie O’Farrell – I really liked The Hand That First Held Mine and wanted to try something else by her;
- The Glass Painter’s Daughter by Rachel Hore – I know nothing about this one other than the blurb. It’s my blind choice of the year.

Umm… what if you hate that series?? 🙂 And you were meant to tell me next time you were going so I could go with you!! Though I’m not really allowed to buy any more books…

Yes, what if I do? :S Well, I guess I’ll donate them all and take it as a valuable lesson for the future!

I can’t believe you bought 21 books from a series you haven’t even tried yet! That is a bold move, Mlle! I expect you to have at least started the first book before 2012 is up!

There’s nothing like getting a full set of books! How could you possibly resist. I know lots of people who love that series although I haven’t tried it myself.

That’s a lot of books! I hope you love the first one 🙂
I like to have full sets too, so I can’t judge!

I love the fact you’ve bought 21 books without trying the 1st one in the series! That is exactly the sort of mad thing I’d do! I really hope they are good reads.

Oh hooray! The Morlands! I just finished the series last year, and while they don’t rival Dunnett in any way, they’re still lots of fun. A little bit soapy and sometimes sliding further into romance territory than I’d usually like, but I found them pretty consistently entertaining, and I learned a lot of social history with relatively little effort. And C H-E writes some of the very best battle scenes I’ve ever read. I’ll be interested in what you think of them.

You put a lot of faith in Mrs Harrod-Eagles! I think I read some books by her years ago, a little fluffy if I remember well. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them on a rainy day/beachy day.
I love the Boekenfestijn myself, and bought some books there this year, but not that many! I love it that they have both Dutch and English books (and for you that was really handy, too, of course).

Wow, that’s a lot of books. I echo Judith, you’ve put a lot of trust into that, though I can’t blame you, I recently bought an entire Dickens collection without having read any of his work, on sale also. A book about olives sounds brilliant!

Great haul! And no, if they’re cheap then there’s not need to feel guilty 😉 At least, that’s how I feel about books 😀
I can’t wait for the Boekenfestijn to return to Rotterdam beginning of 2013. I probably will have to save up for it though (so I can buy a new book case to fit any books that are going to enter this house from now on ;)).

Boekenfestijn! Such lovely books! I bought the Maggie O’Farrell as well, but have yet to read it. (I think I bought another one of her titles at another boekenfestijn).
I do hope that you enjoy the series! If I had seen them and would’ve known about them I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to resist the temptation either.
